EMS vs. TENS — what’s the difference?
They look similar (both send electrical impulses through pads on your skin) but they do different jobs.
EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) targets your motor nerves to make the muscle actually contract. That’s what you use for training and building strength.
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) targets your sensory nerves to turn down pain signals. It doesn’t contract the muscle to train it — it’s a pain-management tool, common in physio.
So: EMS to work the muscle, TENS to quiet pain. A whole-body EMS suit is built for the first job. If your main goal is pain relief for one area, TENS (or proper physio) is the different tool for that.
